Automation Engineer – WNTAE19062025

Job Overview
They are seeking a talented and experienced Automation Engineer to join their dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, programming, testing, and maintaining automation systems used in packaging and bottling machinery. You will play a crucial role in ensuring optimal performance and efficiency of our machines at customer sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement automation solutions for PET bottle blowing, filling, capping, labeling, and packaging machinery.
- Program, debug, and maintain PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems using Siemens TIA Portal, Allen-Bradley, Beckhoff, or similar platforms.
- Integrate motion control systems including servo drives, VFDs, robotics, and actuators for high-speed, high-precision operations.
- Configure and integrate automation components such as sensors, vision systems, safety devices, and industrial networks (PROFINET, EtherCAT, Ethernet/IP).
- Create and maintain detailed technical documentation including electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, control narratives, and user manuals.
- Conduct rigorous testing, debugging, and validation of automation systems during Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT).
- Lead or support on-site machinery installation, commissioning, and system calibration at domestic and international client facilities.
- Analyze and optimize machine performance to achieve targeted metrics such as OEE, cycle time, and energy efficiency.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex automation issues involving control systems, electrical faults, software errors, and communication protocols.
- Provide preventive maintenance strategies and technical support to minimize downtime and ensure machine reliability.
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, R&D, and production teams for new machine development and upgrades.
- Train customer personnel and internal teams on operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of automation systems.
- Participate in R&D for next-generation packaging technologies and contribute to innovation and design standardization.
- Evaluate and implement new automation technologies, Industry 4.0 solutions, and smart manufacturing tools to improve efficiency and productivity.
- Ensure automation systems comply with global safety standards and industry regulations such as ISO 13849 and ANSI/RIA R15.06.
- Plan, organize, and execute structured automation projects with defined timelines and deliverables.
- Conduct root cause analysis for machine or system failures and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Develop robust control software including sequence logic, alarms, interlocks, and data logging features.
- Implement automated testing and simulation procedures to validate new systems before deployment.
- Continuously identify areas for automation and process improvement across packaging lines and manufacturing setups.
Key Skills
- Proficiency in PLC programming (Siemens TIA Portal, Allen-Bradley Studio 5000, Beckhoff TwinCAT).
- Expertise in HMI & SCADA development (WinCC, FactoryTalk View, InduSoft).
- Motion control system design and tuning (servo motors, robotics, VFDs).
- Integration of industrial robots (ABB, KUKA, Fanuc) for packaging automation.
- Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols (PROFINET, EtherCAT, Ethernet/IP, Modbus, OPC UA).
- Automation system design and development for bottling and packaging lines.
- Selection and integration of sensors, actuators, vision systems, and safety devices.
- Electrical and control panel design using CAD tools (EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical).
- Programming in Ladder Logic, Structured Text, and Function Block Diagram.
- Development of control logic for machine sequences, alarms, and interlocks.
- Knowledge of packaging machinery operations (blow molding, filling, capping, labeling, palletizing).
- Adherence to machine safety standards (ISO 13849, ANSI/RIA R15.06, CE compliance).
- Systematic troubleshooting and diagnostics for electrical, software, and mechanical issues.
- Data acquisition and logging for performance monitoring (OEE, cycle time).
- SCADA configuration for plant-level automation and real-time monitoring.
- Project management within automation scope (timelines, documentation, budgeting).
- Creation of technical documentation (wiring diagrams, control narratives, user manuals).
- Cross-functional collaboration with R&D, mechanical, and electrical engineering teams.
- Knowledge of Industry 4.0 and smart manufacturing technologies (IoT, predictive maintenance).
- Root cause analysis and continuous improvement for machine performance.
- Proficiency in scripting and automation languages (e.g., Python, Bash – optional but valuable).
- Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking skills.
- Effective communication and technical presentation abilities.
- Ability to train and support customers and internal teams on automation systems.
- Time management and multitasking across multiple automation projects.
- Familiarity with CNC systems, CO₂/fiber laser machines, and digital printing integration (as applicable).
- Adaptability to new technologies and a continuous learning mindset.
- Focus on precision, safety, efficiency, and innovation in automation solutions.
