Fabrication Production Supervisor – WNTFPS02112025
Job Overview
- Supervise daily fabrication operations including cutting, bending, welding, and assembling of structural and sheet metal components, panels, cabins, doors, frames, and related elevator parts.
- Develop and maintain detailed production schedules for elevator and escalator components to meet project timelines and delivery deadlines.
- Coordinate with design, engineering, and procurement teams to ensure material availability and production feasibility.
- Plan and allocate manpower, machinery, and materials efficiently to achieve production targets without compromising quality and safety.
- Monitor workflow, identify bottlenecks, and implement corrective actions to optimize throughput and minimize downtime.
- Ensure all fabrication work orders are executed as per design drawings, BOMs, and technical specifications.
- Lead, train, and mentor a team of welders, fitters, fabricators, machine operators, and technicians to maintain productivity and workmanship standards.
- Conduct daily briefings, assign tasks, and track performance to ensure timely completion of projects.
- Foster teamwork, discipline, and continuous skill development among shop-floor personnel.
- Ensure effective shift handovers and maintain clear communication across all shifts.
- Maintain strict adherence to fabrication standards, tolerances, and specifications for all elevator components and panels.
- Oversee in-process and final inspections to verify dimensional accuracy, weld quality, and surface finish.
- Ensure compliance with international quality standards such as ASME A17.1, EN 81, and ISO 9001.
- Approve or escalate non-conformance reports (NCRs) and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Maintain all quality documentation, material traceability logs, and inspection records for audits.
- Enforce adherence to safety regulations, PPE usage, and company safety protocols across all fabrication activities.
- Conduct regular safety audits, toolbox talks, and incident investigations on the shop floor.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and local labor laws in all fabrication and panel assembly operations.
- Promote a culture of safety awareness, cleanliness, and organization (5S) throughout the facility.
- Monitor machine performance, schedule preventive maintenance, and minimize unplanned downtime.
- Coordinate with the maintenance team to ensure optimal functioning of CNC machines, plasma cutters, press brakes, welding stations, and material handling equipment.
- Optimize raw material usage (stainless steel, aluminum, galvanized steel) to reduce waste and cost.
- Manage and control inventory of raw materials, consumables, and fabricated parts for panel manufacturing and other components.
- Liaise with procurement and logistics teams to ensure timely material flow and dispatch of finished goods.
- Maintain accurate production records, shift reports, and inventory documentation.
- Implement Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, and Six Sigma principles to enhance process efficiency.
- Identify process improvement opportunities to reduce cycle times, scrap rates, and operational costs.
- Monitor KPIs such as yield rates, machine utilization, and OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness).
- Suggest and execute cost-saving measures without affecting quality or safety standards.
- Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly production reports to senior management.
- Maintain detailed records of manpower utilization, machine downtime, material consumption, and production output.
- Support internal and external audits with all necessary documentation related to production and quality compliance.
- Coordinate with installation and field service teams to resolve fabrication or design-for-manufacturability (DFM) issues.
- Participate in prototype validation and scaling up new product introductions (NPI) to full-scale production.
- Collaborate with finance and supply chain departments for budget planning and cost control.
- Lead rapid response to production disruptions such as equipment breakdowns, material shortages, or manpower issues.
- Develop contingency plans to ensure uninterrupted production and meet delivery commitments.
- Strong knowledge of metal fabrication processes — cutting, bending, welding (MIG/TIG/Arc), CNC machining, forming, and assembly.
- Expertise in elevator component and panel fabrication including cabins, doors, frames, rails, and structural assemblies.
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and weld symbols accurately.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and nesting software such as SigmaNEST or TruTops.
- Strong understanding of engineering drawings, BOMs, fabrication tolerances, and material handling.
- Familiarity with ASME A17.1, EN 81, ISO 9001, AWS D1.1/D1.2, and relevant elevator industry standards.
- Knowledge of IBC seismic requirements, elevator safety codes, and material certification traceability.
- Hands-on experience in production planning, scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Proficiency in MS Office, ERP systems (SAP/Oracle/Infor), and production tracking tools.
- In-depth knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, Six Sigma, and TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) principles.
- Ability to conduct root cause analysis (RCA, 5 Whys, Fishbone, 8D, FMEA) for quality or process issues.
- Skilled in inspection techniques and metrology tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and CMM reports.
- Experience in in-process and final quality inspection, ensuring compliance with specifications and tolerances.
- Strong command of OSHA standards, LOTO (Lockout/Tagout), machine guarding, and workplace safety protocols.
- Proficiency in hazard assessment, confined space, crane safety, and emergency response procedures.
- Excellent leadership, team management, and motivational skills for supervising shop-floor personnel.
- Proven ability to train, guide, and evaluate welders, fitters, and technicians to improve productivity.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate across departments (Design, QA, Maintenance, Supply Chain).
- Effective in delegating, conducting performance reviews, and resolving conflicts within the team.
- Experience in inventory management, material flow, and just-in-time (JIT) production planning.
- Strong understanding of preventive and predictive maintenance for fabrication equipment and CNC machinery.
- Capability to analyze production metrics, KPIs, OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), and implement improvement plans.
- Sound knowledge of cost control, variance analysis, and scrap reduction strategies.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in high-pressure manufacturing environments.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and commitment to quality and safety.
- Ability to prioritize, multitask, and meet tight production deadlines.
- Adaptable to fast-paced, custom-order manufacturing setups.
- Customer-focused mindset, understanding how fabrication quality impacts field installation and end-user satisfaction.
- Fluent in technical reporting, documentation, and KPI presentation to senior management.
- Experience in process improvement, productivity enhancement, and workflow optimization initiatives.
