- Ensure all metallurgical and material quality standards are consistently followed in the foundry.
- Oversee melting, alloying, casting, and heat treatment processes to ensure required metal properties.
- Check chemical composition of molten metal and castings using spectrometers and other testing methods.
- Verify strength, hardness, microstructure, and mechanical properties of castings and forgings.
- Conduct metallurgical testing such as tensile, hardness, impact, and microstructure analysis.
- Coordinate and monitor non-destructive testing such as X-ray, ultrasonic, magnetic particle, and dye penetrant tests.
- Ensure castings and forgings meet customer drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.
- Identify casting defects such as porosity, cracks, shrinkage, or inclusions and perform root cause analysis.
- Implement corrective and preventive actions to reduce rejections, scrap, and rework.
- Monitor foundry processes to maintain consistent quality and reduce variation using SPC and FMEA tools.
- Ensure compliance with automotive and railway quality standards such as IATF 16949 and relevant railway standards.
- Support customer inspections, audits, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain proper documentation including material certificates, test reports, inspection records, and audit documents.
- Work closely with production, engineering, and maintenance teams to resolve quality issues.
- Provide technical guidance and support to shop-floor teams on metallurgical quality practices.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve casting quality, yield, and process efficiency.
- Ensure quality processes follow safety, environmental, and regulatory guidelines.
- Strong knowledge of foundry metallurgy, materials science, and casting processes.
- In-depth understanding of alloy composition, chemical control, and solidification behavior.
- Knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous metals used in automotive and railway applications.
- Hands-on experience with metallurgical testing such as tensile, hardness, impact, and microstructure analysis.
- Expertise in chemical analysis using spectrometers (OES/XRF) and related equipment.
- Proficiency in metallography, sample preparation, and microstructure evaluation using optical microscopes.
- Knowledge of heat treatment processes such as annealing, normalizing, quenching, and tempering.
- Experience with non-destructive testing (NDT) methods including X-ray, ultrasonic, magnetic particle, and dye penetrant testing.
- Ability to identify casting and forging defects such as porosity, cracks, shrinkage, and inclusions.
- Strong root cause analysis skills using tools like 5-Why, Fishbone, 8D, and CAPA.
- Familiarity with quality tools and methodologies such as SPC, FMEA, MSA, APQP, and PPAP.
- Knowledge of automotive and railway quality standards including IATF 16949, ISO 9001, ASTM, BIS, and relevant railway standards.
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
- Experience in process monitoring, optimization, and continuous improvement to reduce scrap and rework.
- Strong documentation and technical reporting skills including test reports, material certificates, and audit records.
- Awareness of safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance requirements.
