Job Overview
The Company is looking for a qualified Chartered Accountant with an active Insurance Surveyor & Loss Assessor licence to join its professional team at Vadodara, Gujarat. The position combines Chartered Accountancy expertise with insurance claim assessment and loss evaluation. The selected professional will be responsible for examining insurance claims, reviewing financial and supporting documentation, assessing the monetary impact of losses, and developing well-structured assessment reports. The role will involve working with insurers, insured parties and other stakeholders to understand claim circumstances, validate financial information and arrive at a professionally supported assessment of the loss. The professional will also be expected to maintain objectivity and ensure that assessments and reports comply with applicable regulatory and professional requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Examine and assess insurance claims involving fire, marine, engineering, property, stock, business interruption and miscellaneous losses.
- Review claim documents, insurance policies, financial statements, books of accounts and supporting records submitted by the insured.
- Conduct spot surveys, final surveys and site inspections to verify the nature, cause and extent of loss or damage.
- Investigate the circumstances and cause of loss and establish relevant facts supporting the claim assessment.
- Verify the ownership, insurable interest and other relevant particulars associated with the insured property or loss.
- Examine damaged property, machinery, equipment, inventory and other assets and correlate physical findings with financial records.
- Validate the accuracy, authenticity and completeness of financial information and supporting documentation submitted with claims.
- Analyse financial and operational information to determine the quantum and monetary impact of insured losses.
- Assess material damage, stock losses, loss of profit, business interruption and consequential losses, wherever applicable.
- Review invoices, purchase records, stock registers, asset registers, bank statements and accounting records to substantiate claimed losses.
- Calculate and evaluate depreciation, salvage value, under-insurance, policy excess, deductibles and other applicable adjustments.
- Interpret policy terms, conditions, warranties, exclusions and coverage provisions while evaluating claim admissibility and liability.
- Conduct financial analysis and reconciliation to establish the validity and value of insurance claims.
- Apply Chartered Accountancy expertise in financial investigation, forensic analysis and evaluation of complex or high-value claims.
- Identify discrepancies, irregularities, unsupported amounts and potential fraud indicators requiring further examination.
- Coordinate with insurers, insured parties, brokers, intermediaries and other stakeholders to obtain information and clarify claim circumstances.
- Liaise with engineers, valuers, technical consultants, investigators and other specialists whenever specialized assessment is required.
- Prepare comprehensive and professionally supported Survey & Loss Assessment Reports covering findings, calculations, policy considerations and conclusions.
- Maintain detailed working papers, calculations, supporting documents and audit trails for every claim assignment.
- Ensure all assessments and reports maintain independence, impartiality, objectivity, accuracy and professional integrity.
- Ensure claim assessments and reporting comply with applicable IRDAI requirements, insurance regulations and relevant professional standards.
- Provide financial analysis, assessment findings and recommendations to insurers and relevant stakeholders for claim settlement consideration.
- Provide clarifications and participate in discussions concerning assessment findings, disputes, arbitration or litigation, wherever required.
- Manage multiple claim assignments and ensure timely completion of surveys, investigations, documentation and reporting.
- Maintain strict confidentiality, professional ethics and regulatory compliance while handling sensitive financial, commercial and insurance-related information.

- Chartered Accountancy & Financial Analysis: Strong expertise in financial accounting, auditing, accounting standards, financial reporting and financial statement analysis.
- Insurance Claim Assessment: Expertise in examining, validating and assessing Fire, Marine, Engineering, Property and Miscellaneous insurance claims.
- Insurance Loss Quantification: Proficiency in determining the quantum of loss, material damage, stock loss and other financial losses arising from insured events.
- Business Interruption & Loss of Profit: Ability to assess business interruption, consequential loss and loss-of-profit claims using appropriate financial data and evidence.
- Insurance Policy Interpretation: In-depth understanding of policy coverage, terms and conditions, exclusions, warranties, deductibles, average clause and other policy provisions.
- Financial & Document Verification: Expertise in scrutinising books of accounts, ledgers, financial statements, invoices, stock registers, bank records and supporting claim documents.
- Forensic Accounting & Investigation: Strong ability to investigate financial information, identify discrepancies, irregularities, inflated claims and potential fraud indicators.
- Asset & Inventory Valuation: Knowledge of stock assessment, inventory valuation, plant and machinery valuation, depreciation, salvage and replacement-cost calculations.
- Site Survey & Physical Verification: Ability to conduct site inspections, physical surveys and asset verification and correlate findings with financial and documentary evidence.
- IRDAI & Regulatory Compliance: Sound knowledge of IRDAI regulations, Insurance Act, 1938, surveyor requirements, professional standards and applicable compliance procedures.
- Loss Assessment Report Writing: Excellent ability to prepare clear, structured, evidence-based and professionally supported survey and loss assessment reports.
- Analytical & Critical Thinking: Strong analytical, investigative and critical-thinking capabilities for evaluating complex financial and insurance claim scenarios.
- Financial Modelling & Data Analysis: Proficiency in MS Excel, financial modelling, data analysis and accounting software such as Tally/SAP for claim calculations and reconciliations.
- Stakeholder Management & Communication: Strong communication skills for effective interaction with insurers, insured parties, brokers, accountants, legal advisors, consultants and technical experts.
- Professional Objectivity & Ethics: High level of independence, objectivity, integrity, confidentiality, professional scepticism and ethical judgement in claim assessments.
- Case Management & Timely Delivery: Strong organisational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple claims, maintain accurate records and complete assessments within prescribed timelines.

Candidates must have hands-on experience in insurance claim assessment, financial document verification, loss quantification, analysis of books of accounts, valuation of assets and inventory, and preparation of survey and loss assessment reports. Prior experience in assessing Fire, Marine, Engineering, Property, Business Interruption, Consequential Loss and Miscellaneous Insurance Claims will be preferred. Experience in IRDAI regulatory compliance, forensic accounting, fraud identification, site inspections, financial reconciliation, depreciation, salvage, under-insurance and claim-related adjustments will be an added advantage.
