Fabrication Production Engineer – WNTFPE01102025

Job Overview
Key Responsibilities
- Execute fabrication plans and daily production schedules as per design and project requirements.
- Work in a sheet steel fabrication plant with hands-on experience in CNC machines such as Turret Punch, Laser Cutting, Press Brakes, and related automated equipment.
- Monitor fabrication processes including cutting, welding (MIG, TIG, Robotic), bending, forming, machining, CNC operations, and assembly.
- Develop, implement, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all fabrication stages.
- Conduct time studies and workflow optimization (value stream mapping) to improve efficiency, reduce cycle times, and eliminate waste.
- Design or specify fixtures, jigs, and tooling to ensure precision and repeatability in fabrication.
- Oversee and troubleshoot programming for automated fabrication equipment (CNC press brakes, laser cutters, turret machines, robotic welding cells).
- Act as a technical expert to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and welding procedures (WPS) into clear work instructions.
- Ensure dimensional accuracy and tolerance adherence using precision measurement tools and CMM data.
- Collaborate with R&D and design teams for Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and producibility reviews.
- Investigate and analyze non-conformances, scrap, and rework issues, implementing root cause corrective actions.
- Ensure adherence to quality control systems, ISO standards, and industry-specific certifications.
- Conduct tests, analyze data, and identify areas for improvement in product quality and reliability.
- Manage welder qualifications, process certifications, and compliance with elevator/escalator standards (ASME A17.1/CSA B44, EN 81).
- Support process planning and sequencing, ensuring efficient use of manpower, machines, and materials.
- Coordinate with design, engineering, and production teams to resolve technical issues.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols, risk assessments, and ergonomic practices, working closely with the Safety Manager.
- Plan and support equipment maintenance schedules to minimize downtime.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Evaluate and recommend suitable fabrication materials and consumables for performance and cost optimization.
- Train, mentor, and guide technicians, welders, and operators to improve skills, productivity, and quality output.
- Prepare and maintain production records, shift reports, and material usage logs.
- Manage and support project tasks, ensuring timely delivery within defined budgets and schedules.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and vendors to ensure smooth production flow.
Key Skills
- Strong knowledge of sheet steel fabrication processes (cutting, bending, welding, forming, machining, assembly).
- Hands-on experience with CNC Turret Punch, Laser Cutting, Press Brakes, Robotic Welding, and precision machining.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and CAM software for programming, tooling, and production planning.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, welding symbols, WPS, and fabrication standards.
- Expertise in MIG, TIG, and robotic welding processes, as well as precision metal forming.
- Ability to design and implement jigs, fixtures, and tooling for repeatable, high-precision fabrication.
- Skilled in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, 5S, FMEA, Time Studies, and Value Stream Mapping.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 standards, precision measuring tools, inspection methods, and CMM data analysis.
- Strong analytical skills for troubleshooting production issues, resolving defects, and implementing corrective actions.
- Collaborating with R&D/design teams to optimize product designs for efficient and cost-effective fabrication (DFM).
- Experience in developing and managing production schedules using ERP/MRP systems (SAP/Oracle).
- Understanding of sheet steels, welding consumables, and fabrication materials for elevator/escalator components.
- Comprehensive knowledge of workplace safety, risk assessments, and compliance with EHS and fabrication safety standards.
- Focus on cost reduction, waste elimination, cycle time improvement, and productivity enhancement.
- Ability to control production costs, manage budgets, and justify capital expenditures.
- Effective coordination with design engineers, production teams, vendors, and cross-functional stakeholders.
- Proven ability to mentor, train, and motivate operators, welders, and technicians for improved performance.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities, technologies, and production requirements.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, projects, and deadlines simultaneously.
