Machine Shop Manager – WNTMSM04092023
- Overall management of the metal fabrication department.
- Assessing potential using CAD, simulation, and offline calculation to cost new parts and responding to sales team members with estimated production cycle times.
- Programming of CNC machines for new parts using a graphical interface.
- Overseeing trials of new parts and documenting processing parameters.
- Managing stocks of cutting tools and other key consumables and requesting supplies as required.
- Working with the Quality Manager to establish quality control and packing plans for new parts.
- Assist with simple CMM inspection and macro programming for routinely inspected items.
- Lead a team of supervisors and operators including allocating daily/weekly tasks to the team.
- Assisting operators with set up of jobs on machines, but ultimately training and mentoring operators to be self-sufficient with support from the training manager.
- Providing technical input on matters such as tooling selection, processing parameters, work holding, processing sequence, finishing and packing.
- Carrying out induction training with new starters.
- Carrying out staff appraisals, supervisions and return to work meetings.
- Ensuring that the team remains in date with mandatory training.
- Carrying out spot checks to ensure quality levels.
- Ensuring acceptable levels of Overall Equipment Effectiveness are achieved.
- Organising Preventative maintenance and cleaning of machines according to manufacturer’s guidelines.
- Liaison with the Operations Planner regarding planning of jobs.
- Liaison with the Operations Planner and Customer Services team in the booking of transport.
- Booking in finished items and issuing used materials.
- Requesting raw material from the warehouse.
- Selecting new plant and equipment.
- Organising repairs/servicing of machines.
- Building better SOPs and applying lean/six sigma principles.
- Responsible for organizing, planning, and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the shop floor, through working with and delegating to the shop superintendent, and to ensure maximum efficiency and productivity as well as minimization of delays. This includes a roughly 10,000 square foot shop with upwards of 20 machines as well as field machining and welding.
- Scheduling, progress tracking, budgeting, forecasting, performance management.
- Driving safety programs on the operational side.
- Pushing growth through business development, client interfacing, and relationship building.
- Responsible for implementing the project/facility specific safety plan with the assistance of the management team and HSE Manager.
- Responsible for ensuring the company training standards are met for the shop personnel in the use of all equipment and software.
- Responsible for ensuring the proper order of all parts, supplies, and services necessary for the completion of work projects, in accordance with company standards.
- Workforce management, requesting manpower, terminations, progressive discipline, performance management & problem resolution.
- Responsible for streamlining processes to minimize costs, decrease errors/deficiencies and meet deadlines.
Key Skills
- CNC programming. (at least using graphical software)
- Ability to use CAD software. (AutoCAD, Solidworks, Fusion or similar)
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics and manuals.
- Adaptable to change and varying situations.
- Ability to show resilience and a flexible approach.
- Good communication skills.
- Excellent people skills and the ability to deliver hands-on training.
- A high level of computer literacy – CAD, Word, Excel and manufacturing systems etc.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety Management Systems (Ideally IOSH).
- Metal fabrication or CNC machining.
- Cutting tools, measuring instruments, and other ancillary equipment.
- Basic level understanding of G-Code.
- Basic understanding of machine workings i.e. sensors, pneumatics, hydraulics etc.
- Lean manufacturing training/six sigma experience.
- Ability to communicate professionally and effectively at all levels, including good level of presentation skills (verbal & written).
- Positive attitude to problem solving, developing systems and improving business performance.
- Ability to promote team working culture and demonstrate team ethics.
- Demonstrate a methodical approach to tasks, adherence to procedures and auditing of processes.
Salary
₹80000/- to ₹125000/- pm (Best in the Industry for Qualified Candidate)
